Should you use AI in your work?

10th September 2025

We consider the pros and cons to help you decide if AI is the right fit for your business.

Have you ever wondered if we use AI to write our Interfuture Systems blogs? The answer is we don’t – sort of. We use AI to help us research topics, prompt ideas, find facts and outline arguments, but the actual content and the way it is written out is done the old-fashioned way, by us.

Why work this way? For us it provides a balance between the efficiency that you get with AI, as it saves us a lot of time researching and planning, but you still hear our perspective and our voice when you read.

But that is just us: what about you, are you ready to fully embrace AI in your business, or do you not think it is the right fit? We explore the advantages and disadvantages to help you decide:

Advantages of AI in your work

Efficiency and productivity – AI can automate repetitive tasks, speed up content creation (as we well know) and can help with coding, as well as customer support.

Enhanced decision making – AI can analyse large datasets to uncover insights we might miss. It can also use predictive analytics to help with forecasting and planning.

Creativity and innovation – tools like generative AI can help you to brainstorm, design and create prototypes, overcoming creative dead ends and offering different perspectives.

Accessibility and support – AI powered tools can provide translations or voice-to-text to help those who need it, with chatbots or virtual assistants also offering 24/7 support.

Disadvantages of AI in your work

Data privacy and security – AI needs to be compliant with GDPR if it accesses sensitive data, and there is always the risk of a data leak if it is not properly managed.

Accuracy and reliability – AI may hallucinate or provide incorrect information, so human oversight is essential.

Ethical considerations – AI biases can lead to skewed outcomes, with transparency around how AI decisions are made still a significant challenge.

Job displacement and skills gaps – AI can lead to aspects of roles being replaced, so upskilling is needed to keep people working with AI.

With all these points considered, ask yourself, should you be using AI? Obviously it will vary massively, but it comes down to three key points:

You should be using AI – with all the advantages it offers, if you don’t, your competitors will outpace you and you’ll be left behind.

Know when to use AI – like with any tool, it is situational: don’t use a hammer when a scalpel is needed. Consider if you’re being efficient, or just lazy.

Don’t overuse AI – ultimately, people still want to connect with people. Often, they can tell when things are created by AI, and sometimes a more personal touch is needed. Utilise this tool, but use it to make what the people in your business are already doing even better – the aim is to improve, not replace.
