Why are the summer holidays the best time for IT upgrades?

20th August 2025

How can you use this quiet time to your advantage and get some IT projects sorted?

With schools on leave, and the weather as good as it will get all year, many of your clients, customers or fellow workers may take time off to go on holiday or cover childcare. There will be less to do, fewer people reliant on your systems and more time to allocate elsewhere.

So, how could you best use this time to benefit you and your business? We have a few ideas for IT implementations you could introduce, so everything is ready for when things becoming busy again in September. Fewer active users means less risk of downtime, and you can get IT teams to work without needing to schedule time out of hours, so it is worth thinking about!

Infrastructure: does your Wi-Fi need an upgrade? Maybe servers need replacing, or you want to move to cloud platforms instead? Use the time when the most people are away to do jobs like this – it’ll be worse to have to take the Wi-Fi down when it is busy.

Software and security: more one for our friends at Interfuture Security, but we can still advise you here. Ensure all the most recent updates are downloaded, patch vulnerabilities and consider implementing new security systems. The additional measures could be critical if you face an attack down the line.

Digital transformation projects: you could take this time to introduce new collaboration tools like Teams or automate workflows with a new CRM system. AI integration could save your teams a lot of time with repetitive tasks – commit a little bit of time now for a big payoff later!

Training and documentation: use downtime to train staff, so that you know they are doing their jobs as best as they can be. This may include training in technology – breakout the tutorials and see what they can learn.

So, if you think any one of these IT implementations has the potential to help your business, doing so while it is quiet is the best idea. If you’re not sure where to start, talk to Interfuture Systems: we’d be happy to help.
