What can you expect to spend on IT extras?
6th August 2025
You’ve got your PC or laptop – what else do you need to complete your IT setup and how much can you expect it to cost?
IT costs can seem never-ending: you’ve just spent a lot on a new laptop, but you forgot to consider all the other bits and pieces of equipment you need. Don’t worry – read our guide and consider what you need, and how much you want to invest.
Monitors
A key piece of equipment: some workers may want to invest in multiple screens to improve efficiency (I have two monitors as well as my laptop) and video editors or photographers may need a higher resolution screen. Can be as cheap as £100 up to £600 plus for 4K monitors.
Headphones
It is highly likely that you will need to use headphones in your role, be it for listening to Teams calls, talking to customers or colleagues, listening to tutorials or just not bothering the office with your music! If you’re going to be on calls a lot, it is worth investing in something comfortable, with good audio quality, with Bluetooth, and a professional microphone (around £150) – if not, headphones can start from as little as £25.
Keyboard and Mouse
This should only cost you around £20-£60 unless you choose something incredibly lavish. Consider the ports on your device and if having a Bluetooth connection option might be preferable. Also, and this should be obvious, but ensure the keyboard is in the language you are using – otherwise it may get confusing!
Webcam
Many laptops have these built in, but you may want to consider one of a better quality if you plan to be on a lot of video calls. Remote workers may want to aim for a camera with Full HD capabilities at around £80, whereas a basic webcam will only set you back about £25.
While there are other items you may need to purchase depending on your needs – such as external hard drives – but these items are essential for most workers. If you need any more guidance on purchasing IT related items, contact Interfuture Systems.
