How is Starlink different in 2025?

30th May 2025

With better speeds, more coverage and improved hardware on the horizon, could Starlink be a good internet provider for your business?

Starlink, developed by SpaceX, is a satellite internet constellation project. That means that instead of providing internet connection in a traditional ground-based way, Starlink instead uses a series of small satellites orbiting Earth at low altitude.

These satellites communicate with ground stations and customers receive internet connection via Starlink dishes. This allows for people who would traditionally struggle to get online the opportunity to do so, even in remote areas.

But what have the most recent developments been? Take a look at what is coming up from Starlink:

Gigabit-speed Starlink dish: a new dish is being prepared for launch that is designed to deliver gigabit internet speeds, a massive step up from the current offering. This is expected to launch in late 2025 to business customers initially, before being rolled out for all users.

Expanded coverage: Starlink continues to expand its reach, with many more territories set to be added by the end of the year. Here is the Starlink availability map* so you can see where Starlink can be used and when it is due to be added to new areas.

Enhanced hardware: there is a refreshed Flat High-Performance (HP) dish from SpaceX that is designed for enterprise buyers at a lower price point. This is in part to clear inventory before the gigabit model is released.

Increased satellite deployment: for the gigabit speed dish, even more satellites are set to be launched. Using SpaceX’s resources, Starlink plans to add to the 7000 satellites already in orbit.

Evidently, Starlink are dedicated to improving and expanding their service. If you live somewhere that has poor internet connectivity, or no internet connection at all, you may want to take a look at the availability map* and consider using them.
