Man vs Machine: who makes the better worker, you or AI?
22nd April 2025
As AI continues to expand and evolve, what place does humanity have in the future of business?
AI is a very useful tool: though I write all these blogs myself, I use an AI program to prompt ideas and to help with research. It can do these processes far more efficiently than I can, saving me time to focus on other tasks.
I can also see the pitfalls of AI, which is why I refuse to let it right articles for me. This technology threatens to replace people (me included) in their jobs, as well as taking some of the humanity out things like art or interaction. So, should you use AI for your business needs, or people?
Here are some of the disadvantages and advantages to using both actual people for a job or using AI – take and look and see if we’re about to be replaced!
AI
Advantages:
· Efficiency – AI can process large amounts of information fast, and to a high degree of accuracy.
· Consistency – AI output is consistent so long as the technology stays running, it can’t become tired or be emotionally influenced.
· Cost-effective – AI can reduce operational costs by automating everyday tasks.
· Scalability – AI systems can be expanded or retracted depending on what your business needs, without having to go through a hiring/firing process.
Disadvantages:
· Lack of emotional intelligence – AI can’t completely understand human and experience and emotion (not yet at least)!
· Creativity limitations – AI may struggle with creative tasks unless given adequate prompts.
· Dependence on data – AI performance varies wildly depending on the quality of data that is fed into it.
· Ethical concerns – AI can be influenced to make bias decisions and has potential data privacy issues.
Human
Advantages:
· Emotional intelligence – unlike machines, humans can be empathetic and give nuanced responses: most of us anyway!
· Creativity – people can think outside the box, coming up with new innovations.
· Adaptability – humans can adapt quickly to unusual situations and can learn new skills quickly.
· Complex decision-making – some decisions require experience and fair judgement, and these are best left to actual humans.
Disadvantages:
· Cost – hiring and training can be expensive.
· Consistency – if people are tried or struggling with external problems, their work may suffer as a result.
· Scalability – the hiring/firing process can be time consuming and expensive.
· Availability – people need breaks, holidays or can become unwell: AI doesn’t!
Ultimately, I don’t think AI is about to take over from people. True, it has a lot of useful capabilities, but it lacks the nuance and emotion that people can bring to situations. However, it can be a very useful tool in making people’s lives easier, particularly with dense, repetitive tasks.
